However, scientific evidence has disproved this myth. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/studies-in-second-language-acquisition\/article\/abs\/bilingual-first-language-acquisition-annick-de-houwer-clevedon-uk-multilingual-matters-2009-pp-xvii-412\/75FE509DFFCD610A3180B11919242F2C\">Current studies<\/a> show that bilingual children develop their language skills in a completely natural way, although they distribute their vocabulary between the two languages. <\/span><\/p><p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For example, a bilingual child may know 50 words in Spanish and 50 in English, while a monolingual child will know 100 in one language. In addition, they are more prepared to learn other languages in the future and develop greater cultural sensitivity.
